Professional Development and Online Learning

Our department mission is to provide training and support to academic programs, facilitate faculty development, support continuing education and continuing medical education programs, support online learning, and promote effective use of instructional strategies for learners.

Our vision is to provide faculty, staff and professionals with support, training and resources to do what they do best—prepare and empower health professionals to become lifelong learners and excel in their professions.

Our Goals

Our goals are to:

  • Conduct faculty and professional development programs to establish best practices in maximizing the use of educational strategies.
  • Share and celebrate academic initiatives currently being conducted across the PCOM community (Georgia and Pennsylvania programs).
  • Foster a spirit of enthusiasm for teaching by exploring new pedagogic methods.
  • Facilitate interprofessional collaboration by promoting academic initiatives across disciplines.
  • Encourage educational research as it relates to academic initiatives.
  • Enhance continuing education opportunities for health care professionals.
  • Promote online and blended learning initiatives across programs.

Faculty Resources

PCOM faculty and staff may access educational and instructional resources by visiting our faculty resources page. Resources include worksheets, instructional videos and documents, tips for engaging students, etc.

Volunteer Clinical Faculty Resources

Special thanks to our volunteer clinical faculty (clinical preceptors) across the entire PCOM community. Their commitment is extremely important to the success of our students as they continue to learn in the clinical setting. Volunteer clinical faculty may apply for a variety of services, including the following.

Library Access

If you have a PCOM faculty appointment and would like access to PCOM’s web-based library resources, please visit Access to PCOM Digital Library E-Resources, fill out the Volunteer form, and you will be contacted by a member of PCOM’s Library Services.

Blackboard Access

Many of our students access educational content and complete online assignments activities (discussion board, quizzes, video demonstrations, etc.) during their clinical rotations. These online educational activities are meant to augment students’ face-to-face experience with clinical preceptors. They use Blackboard, which is a learning management system (secure website which hosts all of these online activities). If you have a PCOM faculty appointment and would like to participate with students in this online environment via Blackboard, please complete the short Blackboard access request form below and you will be contacted by a member from the department of Professional Development and Online Learning (PDOL).
